A landmark 12-storey building, proposed in the Camden area, is one step closer with Camden Council unanimously supporting plans to nearly double the height limit of a portion of Oran Park.

The change in height limit, from 24m to 47m, would pave the way for an eye-catching apartment complex bordering Oran Park Podium and walking distance from the proposed Oran Park train station site.

Camden Labor councillor Cindy Cagney moved the motion on Tuesday to endorse the height limit variation and praised Greenfields Development Company for its work in Oran Park.

“I know that Oran Park Town, Greenfields Development Company, has done lots of homework and lots of community consultation,” she said.

“They really do take on board their community’s comments.

“Any proposal, such as this, that will actually enhance the town centre area is beneficial.”

A change from the current five-storey height limit would allow the proposed complex to include an extra seven storeys and 56 apartments.

Council staff also supported the 12-storey building and recommended councillors endorse the draft Planning Proposal.

“The scale and height of the proposed residential building is considered appropriate given its Town Centre location,” the business paper stated.

“It will become a landmark building in Oran Park.”

Greenfields Development Company has offered 3000 sqm, currently zoned medium density residential, to council to be used as open space.

The land is opposite Oran Park Town Sales Centre.

The draft Planning Proposal has now been forwarded to the Department of Planning for Gateway Determination.

Independent councillor Eva Campbell was absent from the meeting and did not vote.
