The $55 million Oran Park Leisure Centre — to house the Camden area’s first 50m swimming pool — is going swimmingly with a development application lodged.

The Central Ave development will include a 50m pool, leisure pool, learn-to-swim pool, spa and sauna, indoor basketball courts, gymnasium, cafe, childcare facilities and a basement carpark.

Camden Council lodged the development application with the Sydney District and Regional Planning Panel, which will assess the project before the Planning Department makes the final determination.

Greenfields Development Company and Camden Council are funding the Central Ave project, with the health and fitness areas next to a multi-purpose community facility that will be “a place for social gathering’’ and unite the existing library and Camden Council’s administration building.

Warren and Mahoney Architects have designed the building, which is expected to be completed by September 2024.

Camden Mayor Therese Fedeli welcomed the advancement in the project.

“It’s so exciting to have the development application for the highly-anticipated Oran Park Leisure Centre officially lodged,’’ she said.

“It’s one of the first steps in making this state-of-the-art facility a reality for the Oran Park, and indeed wider Camden community, as it continues to grow.’’

The complex will join other sports facilities across Camden including Kirkham Park BMW park, a synthetic football field at Nott Oval in Narellan, the Fergusons Land Cricket Facility and Narellan Sports Hub.

The exploding population in the region, propelled by Western Sydney Airport, is fuelling up to $513 million worth of upgrades in the Macarthur region.

Projects include the Oran Park Town Centre, where the Planning Department approved a $30 million 13-storey tower in October.

Greenfields Development Company’s “landmark residential tower’’ was approved as part of the NSW Government’s Planning System Acceleration Program — starting the construction of 60 homes and a new 3000sq m park at the suburb’s centre.

Recreation wise, a $38 million Oran Park Hotel has also been approved and will feature a rooftop cocktail bar, gold class cinema and high-end steakhouse.
