The cause of a collision involving a three-year-old boy and a moving car in Oran Park has been revealed, with police saying the child ran onto the road.
Emergency services, including a rescue helicopter, rushed to Steward Drive, Oran Park, about 5.10pm on Wednesday following the tragic incident which took place when the child was returning home from a park.
The boy was flown to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead where is in a serious, but stable, condition with the injuries, including as broken femur, not considered to be life-threatening.
The 29-year-old female driver of the Holden Captiva involved in the collision wasn’t injured in the incident and has completed mandatory testing and been interviewed by police. Police say it is unlikely she will be charged.
Jatinder Singh, who has a young family and lives about 50m from the accident scene, said more could be done to make the roads safer.
“When I heard an accident had taken place I was like ‘oh my god’,” he said. “It was a scary thought.
“They need to come up with something (to make the road safer). I have got a young kid and I I would not mind any (speed) deterrence. It doesn’t matter if I am late by 30 seconds, as long as my kids are safe and everybody elses.”
Police are still investigating the incident and are expected to speak to a number of witnesses on Thursday. If anyone has dashcam vision of the incident, please contact Camden Police.
