Three men who came together to share the spoils of a $12,000 ‘ice’ haul never got to experience the high, with violence erupting once it was revealed they had, in fact, bought kitty litter.

Bellambi man Jed Leighton was waiting patiently at a Macquarie Fields home in the early hours of June 22 as his friend and Zeb Wenban, who he had met just hours earlier, were buying two ounces of ‘ice’ at a mystery Ingleburn location.

The duo soon returned to the Mr Wenban’s Macquarie Fields home with the spoils however, the night quickly turned sour once they examined the substance and discovered they had been sold kitty litter.

Magistrate George Breton described the group’s reaction by simply saying, “they were not happy”.

Leighton, a 29-year-old father, erupted in rage at the stupidity of the buyers for not checking the goods and threatened Mr Wenban, demanding he compensate the men.

The Bellambi man, who was on parole at the time, said to the Macquarie Fields man “do you need some motivation” before viciously punching the man above his right eye, court documents reveal.

After the violence, the three men and a new hanger-on piled into a Holden Astra and began driving to Bellambi for an “unknown reason”, the police facts say.

Mr Wenban alerted police of the situation who intercepted the car and arrested the three men as he was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for treatment.

On Tuesday, Campbelltown Local Court heard Leighton had a history of drug issues and criminal convictions, and was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and sentenced to 12 months jail. Leighton will be eligible for parole on November 27 this year.
