Four men remain in custody on remand after a dawn raid led to their arrests over the alleged murder of a Sydney teenager two years ago.
Just after 11pm on February 15, 2020, emergency services were called to Cabramatta Ave, Miller after 18-year-old Omar Elomar was shot dead in his car.
Police have previously said a gun wound punctured Elomar in the chest while he sat in the car and paramedics were not able to revive him. He died at the scene.
Following initial inquiries by officers from Liverpool City Police Area Command, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad took over the investigation under Strike Force Cero.
In February 2020, a then 18-year-old teenager was charged on separate occasions over his alleged involvement in the murder but has since been acquitted.
Following further investigations, Homicide Squad detectives arrested four men at homes in Bonnyrigg, Macquarie Fields, Gregory Hills, and Orange just before 6am on Thursday.
During subsequent searches of homes in Cartwright, Orange, and Macquarie Fields, police located and seized mobile phones, documents and clothing. All items seized will undergo further forensic examination.
Police arrested 23-year-old Chadwick Matapuku at a home in Gregory Hills and charged him with murder at Campbelltown Police Station.
A lawyer appeared on Matapuku’s behalf on Friday, but bail was not applied for. The solicitor asked for the matter to be adjourned to June 22, when a release application will be made.
A 20-year-old man, Octavian Paulo, was arrested at a home in Macquarie Fields and also charged with murder.
His lawyer John Juweinat appeared on his behalf at Campbelltown Local Court on Friday, and advised he would not be making an application for bail.
“It is going to require some court time because the facts and circumstances that gave rise to these matters had already been litigated in other proceedings,” he told the court.
Paulo, a Macquarie Fields’ resident, will front court on June 22 for a release application to the court.
Both his and Matapuku’s case will also return to Campbelltown Local Court on July 22.
Busby man Alonzo Faaoloii was arrested at a home in Bonnyrigg on Thursday, with police charging the 25-year old with murder.
Faaoloii was represented by lawyer Ahmed Dib in Liverpool Local Court on Friday, who told the court he would be making a bail application on behalf of his client on June 17.
A 22-year-old man, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, was arrested at a home in Orange and taken to the local police station where he was also charged with murder.
He appeared in Orange Local Court on Friday, and did not apply for bail.
