A mystery man has won an adoring legion of fans after a random act of kindness last Friday, stopping by to support a young girl learning how to walk once more.
Three-year-old Sydney, who only two weeks ago had both her legs in a cast after she broke her femur a month earlier, had been slowly rebuilding her confidence to walk when an unknown gentleman stopped by at Campbelltown Mall on Friday.
The middle-aged man saw that the toddler was frightened to take a few short steps and stopped in his tracks to help, even hopping on his knees and singing children’s songs.
After the toddler made a successful series of steps, thanks to his encouragement, the man paid for Sydney to enjoy one of the shopping centre’s amusement rides before going on his way.
Mum Janice Hyland was so taken aback by the random act of kindness she penned a public thanks on Facebook’s Macarthur Notice Board.
Miss Hyland said the man’s actions had a significant impact on Sydney’s happiness, who is now walking unassisted like “a little frail lady”.
“I hadn’t been able to get her to stand up for two weeks,” she said.
“It’s always the people that you don’t expect that’s going to actually get her to do something.
“(The random act of kindness) has worked wonders because since then (Friday) she has gained a lot more confidence. She is now walking unassisted like a frail little lady.
“(The mystery man’s) help has obviously helped encourage her to believe in herself a little bit more than she did the day before. Every little bit helps.
“I just want to thank him for taking part in doing that for her.”
The Facebook post, published on Friday, has attracted close to 1000 likes with comments including “earth angel”, “what a wonderful man” and “faith in humanity restored”.
