Spring Farm may soon brace for a granny takeover with grand plans lodged for a multimillion-dollar seniors precinct in the heart of the growing suburb.

Sydney-based Moran Health Care Group has proposed an aged care home and childcare centre, worth $28 million in total, on a vacant 4ha Rd block on Springs Rd, bordering Spring Farm Shopping Centre.

Moran Group also indicated future ambitions for seniors apartments and residential townhouses on the site.

Managing director Peter Moran told the Chronicle the precinct would be a “total retirement, aged care package”.

“We see that southwest (Sydney), Camden region as a great area,” he said.

“With people and the elderly wanting to be close to their families, we think it’s a great area to put in an aged care facility.”

Mr Moran said the Spring Farm facility would mirror innovative programs taking place at the company’s other locations, with programs combining the elderly residents and children.

“With aged care at the moment, I don’t think the community can have enough good aged care facilities,” he said. “Good facilities are in desperate need.”

In documents lodged to Camden Council, the aged care provider said the seniors hub would create over 150 jobs, boost the suburbs “social capital” and cater for the area’s ageing population.

Two designated dementia wards, consisting of 60 beds, would be located in the two-storey aged care facility. The facility would have 122 beds in total.

The proposed childcare centre would have the capacity for 180 kids.

The child care facility would be located closest to the shopping centre and have the capacity to care for 180 children, aged zero to six.

Moran Group’s future ambitions would see 52 two-storey seniors apartments and 28 townhouses take shape.

Mr Moran said aspirations to restore the nearby Studley Park House were nearing reality, with plans currently being worked on.

He also confirmed an agreement has been made in relation to land surrounding St John’s Camden Anglican Church, with a vision to also construct an aged care facility.

The plans for the proposed Spring Farm development are currently on public exhibition.
