Investigations are underway after a science lab at Mount Annan High School was set alight and 12 windows damaged early this morning.
According to police about 2.40am today emergency services were called to the school on Welling Drive after reports it was on fire.
Firefighters attended and extinguished the blaze which police said was “deliberately lit”.
A classroom sustained substantial amount of smoke damage to the walls, and furniture, the police said in a statement.
A blunt object was used to damage 12 windows in the science block of the school.
In a post on Facebook school principal Ken Bates wrote nobody was injured and the fire was “contained in one classroom but E-block has been affected by smoke and water damage and will be out of operation for at least the remainder of the week”.
“The school is operational and classes and exams are proceeding as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience or distress this may cause to our students but the entire staff are working with Department of Education officials to minimise disruption,” Mr Bates wrote.
“Nothing is more important to us than the safety and wellbeing of our students.”
Officers from Camden Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to come forward.
