A man will fight the allegations he hit a man with his car then shouted “claim it on compo” at a petrol station in Sydney’s southwest.

Matthew Austin, 46, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday where a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf to drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm, drive recklessly or furiously in a speed or manner dangerous, and common assault.

He was arrested at Thirlmere on August 29, a few hours following an incident at an EG Ampol service station at Remembrance Driveway, Tahmoor.

Police had responded to reports about 6.45pm of a man being struck by a car.

On arrival, officers attached to Camden Police Area Command located a 52-year-old man suffering from scratches and bruises.

Police were told there had been an argument involving the man and another driver, who had left the scene.

“The offence is of a serious nature and could easily have inflicted more serious injury,” court documents allege.

“(Austin) showed a callous indifference towards the alleged victim in this matter, shouting at him “claim it on compo” after hitting him with his motor vehicle,” according to police allegations in court documents.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries.

Austin remains on bail and the matter returns to court on November 15.
