Mastermind behind infamous Mehajer staged crash jailed

One of the masterminds behind the infamous staged Salim Mehajer crash has been sentenced to jail for his role in assembling a motley crew to do his bidding.
Mehajer’s old school pal and business associate Ahmed Jaghbir, who is defending accusations in the Supreme Court of his role in the murder of Sydney underworld figure Kemel Barakat, allegedly was asked by the flamboyant former politician if he knew anyone keen to make some money on October 15, 2017.
Jaghbir soon offered $10,000 to the Moufferidge brothers, Michael and Elias, to stage a collision with Mehajer’s car the next day in a desperate bid to allegedly delay his court appearance on assaulting a taxi driver. Mehajer denies being involved in staging the crash and will stand trial accused of perverting the course of justice later this year.
The Moufferidge brothers got their partners, Nora Anne Bush and Fakaha Moufferrige, to do the “dirty work” as Jaghbir watched on at the planned Lidcombe crash site giving directions to his female accomplices. About 8.40am, the Jaghbir-directed Mitsubishi Outlander collided into the Mehajer’s Mercedes Benz which left the former deputy mayor requiring hospital treatment.
The group-of-four only ultimately received $3600 for their troubles, with Jaghbir personally delivering $1000 allegedly on Mehajer’s behalf.
Judge Andrew Colefax said the 31-year-old father, despite pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice, wasn’t genuinely remorseful for his crimes.
He said the Lidcombe man, with no prior criminal convictions, could’ve been “manipulated” due to his low intellect.
He received a backdated sentence of 19 months jail with 10 months non parole. He will be eligible for release on June 12.
Nora Anne Bush, a member of the plot, will be sentenced next month for her role in the operation. Michael, Elias and Fakaha Moufferidge have previously pleaded guilty to their roles.
