A marriage celebrant who has featured on a popular reality television show has copped a stern rebuke from a magistrate after he was caught speeding.

Adam Grant Seeney, 28, fronted Picton Local Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to speeding more than 10km/h over the limit.

The celebrant, who resides in Annandale and has run his own business Married by Adam for five years, was caught by police on the Old Hume Hwy at 8.50pm after working a wedding on May 20.

It was revealed in court on Wednesday, Seeney was on a good behaviour licence, which can be issued to drivers with an unrestricted licence who have received a notice of suspension due to excessive demerit points.

The drivers can apply for a 12-month good behaviour period but if they accrue two or more demerit points, have their original licence suspension doubled.

Lawyer Jonathan Jaramillo told the court Seeney relied on his licence and travelled more than 60,000km a year for work and asked the court not to record a conviction.

However, Magistrate David Degnan said he would not be granting the father of one a second chance and said Seeney had put his own livelihood at risk.

“Having started the good behaviour licence in July last year, we have a speeding offence committed in May,” Mr Degnan said.

“He’s doing 70km/h in a 50km/h zone … he’s lost the gamble and now you want me to give him another chance? My obligation is not to him, it’s to the community.”

Seeney was convicted of the offence and fined $295. He has lodged a conviction appeal and will face Campbelltown District Court next week.

Seeney featured in season nine of Married At First Sight Australia, which aired in 2022, and was the celebrant for Tamara and Brent.
