A man has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney’s southwest, with a second charge of sexual intercourse without consent dropped after the trial.

Karl Baxter, 36, faced Campbelltown District Court on Thursday, where it was confirmed he would not face a second trial over allegations of sexual assault.

Baxter was found not guilty by a jury of one count of sexual intercourse without consent against a woman at an address in the Macarthur region.

A second count of sexual intercourse without consent did not result in a verdict by the jury, following deliberations of about nine hours.

At Campbelltown District Court last week, a representative of the Director of Public Prosecutions said there would be no further proceedings against Mr Baxter on the allegations.

The court had earlier heard Mr Baxter had planned to defend the charges on the issue of consent.
