Man allegedly lead police on crime spree through southwest Sydney

A man was arrested in the carpark of a Westfield shopping centre after allegedly leading police on a dangerous pursuit across Sydney.

A man will face court after he allegedly led police on a dangerous crime spree and pursuit through south west Sydney.

The 46-year-old was allegedly driving a white Toyota HiLux with stolen plates in the Campbelltown area about 6.30am Tuesday when police saw him.

Officers tracked the vehicle for a short while before starting a pursuit on Airds Rd, Leumeah, however it was quickly stopped.

Polair was called in to watch the vehicle as it drove across Sydney’s southwest towards Burwood.

The HiLux allegedly crashed through a boom-gate at Burwood’s Westfield shopping centre on Burwood Rd before the driver got out and fled.

Police will allege in court the man got into a delivery van while the driver was unloading goods and drove away.

The 46-year-old was arrested shortly after and taken to Concord Hospital for assessment.

He was later discharged and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was hit with nine charges.

They include two counts of goods in personal custody suspected stolen, drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit, drive manner dangerous, drive while disqualified, steal from motor vehicle, malicious damage, use class A vehicle with an unauthorised number plate.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court.
