Family and friends have paid tribute to a young father who died in hospital days after he was hit by a P-plater and flung in the are in Sydney’s south west.
Tributes are flowing for 21-year-old Hayden Hurst who was struck at high speed by a Holden Commodore being driven by a 17-year-old boy on the Old Hume Highway at Camden just before 1am Friday.
The father-of-two was flung in the air, with specialist doctors flying to treat Mr Hurst before he was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
He suffered serious head injuries and died on Saturday, leaving behind a two-year-old son.
Police said Hurst and the 17-year-old are known to each other and investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the crash.
The 17-year-old was arrested early Friday morning but was released without charges as detectives continue to investigate.
On Monday, family and friends went to the Old Hume Highway where Mr Hurst was killed to pay tribute to the 21-year-old.
Flowers and notes were left for the 21-year-old, as well as balloons reading out his name and age.
Tributes are flowing online for Mr Hurst with his girlfriend saying she was “shocked” by the loss.
“Not even two months ago I was lucky enough to wake up next to him,” she told the Macarthur Chronicle.
“He was the most amazing, caring and funniest person I’ve ever met, I’m lost without him but I’m glad he’s at peace.”
“I’ll forever cherish the memories we made together.”
Mr Hurst’s stepmother Leanne Tonga described the 21-year-old as outlandish, stubborn, spontaneous and “cheeky as hell”.
“There can only be one Hayden,” Ms Tonga said.
“He had a smile that would light up a room and that cheeky grin he just didn’t see how much he was loved.”
Ms Tonga said Mr Hurst was loved by so many people.
“Hope he realises now how much of a blessing in disguise he truly was to a lot of us.”
Charbel Korkmaz described Mr Hurst as a “21-year-old with a full life ahead of him”.
“He is remembered by his mother, two sisters, twin brother and his beautiful two-year-old boy,” Mr Korkmaz wrote.
Kyle Anne wrote: “RIP Hayden you will be missed”.
A GoFundMe has since been set up by Briannan Hurst who said Mr Hurst “was only 21 with a full life ahead of him”.
“Our family has lost an amazing young man who had a heart of gold,” the fundraiser reads.
“He would have given the world to anyone if he could.”
The fundraiser says the family is “beside themselves” but is asking for help to farewell the young father.
“We wouldn’t wish this on anyone,” the fundraiser reads.
The fundraiser was launched on Sunday and has since raised just under $4000.
