A Minto 20 year old has been identified as the man accused of shooting a teenager in Ambarvale in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Matofa Alofia was arrested and charged yesterday morning with three offences, including discharge firearm likely to injure a person and possession of an unauthorised pistol, at Campbelltown Police Station.

He was also charged with the possession of an unregistered/prohibited firearm.

Police allege Alofia fired a silver revolver while he was a passenger in a motor vehicle in the early hours of Sunday morning and had no regard to the safety of the 17 year old victim.

The teenager was admitted to Campbelltown Hospital on Sunday with a gun shot wound to his right upper arm. He was later transferred to Liverpool Hospital to undergo surgery.

Alofia will remain in custody for another fortnight with his lawyer indicating they would seek bail the next time the matter is heard.

The matter is due to return to Campbelltown Local Court on June 4.
