A Picton man charged with supplying magic mushrooms after police uncovered a stash of drugs during a raid has learnt his fate.

A Picton man charged with supplying magic mushrooms after police uncovered a stash of drugs during a raid has learnt his fate.

Brendan Webster, 34, appeared in Picton Local Court on Friday for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to possessing prohibited drugs, and one count of supplying a prohibited drug.

Three counts of possessing restricted substances were also taken into account when Webster was sentenced.

Court documents state that police executed a search warrant at 7pm on May 27, 2021 at a property in Picton as part of an investigation into the supply of drugs.

After searching the rooms in the house they found multiple types of drugs including Xanax tablets and valium.

The documents state that they also found Arimidex, which is used to treat breast cancer but can be used by bodybuilders to reduce the effects of anabolic steroids, inside a bedroom drawer.

Officers also found magic mushrooms and cannabis inside a coffee table that Webster said belonged to him.

Both the prosecution and defence made written submissions, and in handing down his sentence on Friday Magistrate Mark Douglass said he accepted Webster was using the drugs for self-medication.

“The accused became frustrated with regular channels in relation to obtaining satisfactory medication that was effective,” he said.

“[A report] indicates there will be some need for this particular offender to have continuing psychological counselling.”

Magistrate Douglass said the supply of magic mushrooms was a “significant example” of this type of offence, noting the amount seized was almost on par with the commercial quantity.

He said that Webster was entitled to a discount due to his early plea of guilty.

Webster was sentenced to a 12-month community corrections order and a nine-month intensive corrections order.
