Macarthur FC revealed as new A League club
The region’s new A-League team has been revealed as Macarthur FC.
South west Sydney and the Macarthur region’s new A-League team has been revealed as Macarthur FC.
The club, set to enter the A-League competition from the 2020-2021 season will wear black, gold and white when they first take to the field at Campbelltown Stadium.
The name and colours were unveiled at a club launch this afternoon at the Campbelltown Catholic Club.
The club said in a statement the colours were chosen to represent the diverse cultures of the area.
“Like the club, [they] are authentically fun, tribal, proud, hardworking and inclusive,” the club said the statement.
“Ochre is included to represent one of the traditional colours for the local Dharawal Aboriginal people on whose land the Macarthur region sits.
“The logo includes a bull, which is demonstrative of the club’s physical power as well as a tilt to history when a runaway herd of cattle was discovered in the region in 1795, and three stars of the Southern Cross to symbolise football’s links with the grassroots football community, the National Premier League and the A-League.”
Former Socceroo, club ambassador and Macarthur region local Brett Emerton spoke at the launch of his excitement for the club’s future.
“I’ve been involved from day one and I’ve seen first hand the excitement in the community,” he said.
“I wish I was 30 years younger and growing up now, playing my football in the Macarthur region.”
The current Socceroos coach and two-time A League championship winning manager Graham Arnold was also in attendance.
Campbelltown Council will also take up an offer from Macarthur FC to become an official ‘community partner’.
As part of the arrangement, children living in the Campbelltown Local Government Area who are selected to be part of the club’s academy program will be provided with a scholarship to participate in the elite pathway.
Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic said the name and colours embodied the local region.
“I think everybody absolutely loves the colours, loves the name, loves the emblem and loves the story behind it,” he said.
“It’s got a real local feel for the people who were here first and I hope they appreciate it.
“We’re looking forward to doing a lot more with the club, council is very excited to be a community partner and sponsor.
“It’s going to make such a difference not only to the children who will have access to the elite pathway but also for the children who just want to get on the park and have a kick around.
