The parking woes of Leppington Station could be a thing of the past, with one state candidate claiming the government could triple the number of spaces with minimal delay.
Documents, seen by the Chronicle, reveal the NSW Government own about 7ha surrounding
the station which Camden Independent state candidate Andrew Simpson says could house more than 2000 temporary car park spaces.
“Why can we not get the basics right such as supplying the required number of carparking spaces when facilities are built,” Mr Simpson said.
“This pertains not just to train stations, but also to safe access for hospitals and schools, and the delivery of core services such as public transport and roads.”
The comments follow a $9 million Liberal election announcement for 350 parking spaces at the station, announced just months after Labor promised to fund $16 million for 300 extra spaces.
The station, which first opened in 2015, currently has 900 carparking spaces.
Liverpool independent state candidate Michael Andjelkovic has also cried foul of situation and has organised a protest rally for tomorrow (February 23).
He previously told the Chronicle the parking nightmare has created safety problems, with some commuters forced to park several kilometres away.
