NSW Labor has promised to double its funding commitment to upgrade the notorious Appin Rd.
Campbelltown MP Greg Warren announced Labor will now commit $100 million towards the project if elected on March 23 alongside $50 million already promised by a federal Labor government.
There have been more than 35 deaths on the road linking Campbelltown and Wollongong in the past 35 years.
Mr Warren said the NSW Government had failed to deliver any substantial to the road in the past eight years.
“Residents in Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur have been begging the government for years to do something about the death trap that is Appin Road,” he said.
“I used to drive coal trucks up and down the notorious stretch of road so I know first-hand how dangerous conditions for motorists are.”
The federal Liberal Government committed $50 million to the project at the 2016 election while the NSW Government has outlined plans for developers to help pay for the project as part of the Greater Macarthur 2040 plan through a special infrastructure contribution.
