JUNE Kendall and her husband Rick have helped raise more than 840 children throughout 40 years as a foster carer.
Mrs Kendall, of Raby, worked with a range of foster agencies to take care of children who were in need of support for a range of reasons before retiring two years ago.
“People say you get paid well for it but we really did it out of love,” she said.
“The most rewarding part was seeing the children return to their parents and grow up … we still keep in touch and have many foster grand children.
“It's great to see them adapt to a good life after experiencing things like domestic violence
Mrs Kendall’s daughter Kelly-Ann was adopted by the couple after being one of their foster children.
“We adopted her at 26-days-old and she’s now 36,” she said.
Mrs Kendall has been nominated for a Pride of Australia Award, which recognises ordinary Australians who make a difference to our community.
