A man will fight the allegations he fired a shot inside his home during a housing dispute in Sydney’s southwest outskirts, leading to NSW Police’s Riot Squad being called to the scene.

Joshua Rose, 39, has pleaded not guilty to firing a firearm in a manner likely to injure persons or property, two counts of possessing a shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, possessing ammunition without a permit, and not keeping a firearm safely.

Police allege about 7.30pm on August 28, a 45-year-old man attended Rose’s home on Hunter St, Tahmoor, to speak to him regarding a tenancy dispute.

An argument ensued, and then it was alleged a shot was fired from inside the home.

Police were notified and Camden police attended the home, along with the Public Order Riot Squad, and Rose surrendered to police without incident.

He was arrested and taken to Narellan police station.

A crime scene was established at the home, with police seizing two sawn-off .22 calibre rifles and an amount of ammunition. It will be alleged that these items were not secured in an approved storage safe.

Rose’s case was mentioned at Picton Local Court on Wednesday, where it was revealed he would fight the charges at a hearing next year.

His lawyer told the court the matter would take up to two days because there was a lengthy history between Rose and the alleged victim.

The lawyer claimed that before the alleged incidents, Rose had reported the other man to police multiple times due to issues.

The matter will return to court early next year. Rose remains in custody on remand.
