NARELLAN RD was recently slowed to a slithering pace as a surprise jaywalking snake halted traffic at peak hour.
A red-bellied black snake, estimated to be about 1.21m in length, travelled across the Narellan and Kellicar roads intersection, at Campbelltown, last Monday.
Motorist Bill Cork took a picture of the slow-moving snake, as he waited patiently for the unusual guest to leave.
“It’s not what you see everyday,” he said. “It was most unusual.”
“My wife Rhonda was worried it would wrap around the car so we waited until it moved out. It took around five minutes.”
The Gregory Hills residents were returning home from Campbelltown Hospital when they were bombarded by the slithering pedestrian.
“It was just before the traffic lights so we stopped to let it go. Cars behind were tooting and carrying on because they couldn’t see the reason for the delay,” he said.
“I certainly didn’t expect to see one on Narellan Road, it was the first one I have seen in real life.
Mr Cork believes the 1.21m snake was travelling towards a nearby reserve.
The incident follows a spike in Macarthur snake sightings, with the warmer weather enticing more snakes from their hiding spots.
