SNAKES are coming out of hiding, with the recent sunshine enticing the reptiles from their hiding spots.
Campbelltown snake catcher Cory Kerewaro said he had received six times as many sightings over the past two weeks.
“Now is the time snakes wake up and start looking for food or a mate to breed with,” he said. “A lot of my call-outs are for red belly black snakes and eastern browns.
With the warm weather we are starting to see more and more action from snakes and lizards.”
The development of Harrington Park, Oran Park and Catherine Field has disturbed many snakes’ peace, with Mr Kerewaro warning residents to expect more of the reptiles in their backyards.
“The large-scale developments are destroying the snakes’ habitat, so they are pushing further afield and looking for somewhere to hide,” he said.
“Many of the call outs I do receive are from these areas, such as the juvenile eastern brown snake I recently caught in Catherine Field.”
A clean, well-maintained yard is the best remedy to continue a snake-free existence, Mr Kerewaro said.
“The best thing anyone can do is to simply keep your yard clean.”
