CELEBRITY chef Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food healthy cooking program is expanding to Leppington to inspire families and retirees to return to the kitchen and make delicious meals.
The new outreach program will start at Stockland Willowdale at Willowdale Community Place, in Leppington, on Wednesday, September 6, and people can book from Tuesday, August 1.
It will include two seven-week courses along with a series of themed interactive demonstrations on topics including easy lunchtime solutions, recipes for busy people and how to
read food labels.
The demonstrations have been planned based on the local demographic of the Stockland Willowdale community which is focused on families and retirement living.
Jamie’s Ministry of Food Australia has been running in the nation for six successful years and more than 36,000 people have passed through the program.
Expanding its NSW footprint will see dedicated food trainers from the Wetherill Park Kitchen deliver the new program to Leppington and teaching participants Mr Oliver’s hints, tips and shortcuts.
The outreach program draws on Mr Oliver’s food ethos and teaches people to start cooking for themselves once again and equips them with some simple skills and knowledge.
As Mr Oliver said during his recent visit to Australia in May, “Research done here in Australia proves that what we do works, so we need to reach more people and get more people cooking and taking care of their health.
“When you get local people to inspire local people, we can create sustained change.”
Stockland senior development manager Jonathan Lawson said the organisation was thrilled to be a part of this positive program, bringing Jamie’s Ministry of Food to our fast-growing Willowdale community.
“We know the importance of a diverse fresh food offering and continually striving to deliver more for all residents in the area, from young families to retirees,’’ he said.
“Stockland always strives to create a better way to live and we see our communities as an important part of living this ethos.
“We see this new initiative with Jamie’s Ministry of Food and The Good Foundation as a perfect way to encourage people to improve their cooking skills and help to create a happy, healthier community.”
Tickets for the seven-week course cost $140.
