A 37-year-old man accused of the murder of Campbelltown father Jamie Phillips, whose naked body was found in a vacant Rosemeadow lot in October 2018, has pleaded not guilty in Campbelltown Local Court.
Barry Paul Cavanagh, of Parklea, has been committed to stand trial in the NSW Supreme Court on the sole charge of murder.
The violent death shook the Campbelltown community and prompted an emotional plea for answers from Jamie Phillips’s mum and brother in January last year.
A post mortem determined Mr Phillips died as a result of multiple injuries, including stab wounds.
Cavanagh was arrested 12 months ago following a joint investigation by detectives from the State Crime Command homicide squad and Campbelltown police, and has been in custody on remand ever since.
Two other men – Nathan McIvor, of Blair Athol and Sean David O’Keefe, of Ingleburn – have also been charged with the murder of Jamie Phillips. They remain before the courts.
Two women – Sharyn Lee Gallagher, of Ambarvale, and Amanda Robinson, of St Helens Park – have been charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. They also remain before the courts.
Cavanagh is listed to appear by videolink in the Supreme Court on May 1 for arraignment.
