A teenager whose alleged dangerous driving caused a fatal crash on the Hume Highway has been named.

Jack McKenny, from Campbell in the ACT, was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death after a crash tragically claimed the life of an 18-year-old man.

Just after 1pm on June 11, emergency services raced to the Hume Highway at Sutton Forest after reports of a single-car crash.

A police statement details how officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and were told a car veered onto the median strip before hitting a tree.

One passenger, who court documents have identified as Jack Winters, died at the scene.

McKenny, 19, and another male passenger were taken to Campbelltown Hospital in a stable condition and later released.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit established a crime scene and examined what happened.

Following investigations, McKenny was charged in August.

At Moss Vale Local Court on Tuesday, a police prosecutor said they would need an adjournment to compile the brief of evidence.

The matter is set to return to court on December 20.
