“I think we can make football the number one game here.”

With 11 words the newly-minted inaugural CEO of the Macarthur South West Football Club, Archie Fraser, outlined his grand vision for football in south west Sydney.

Fraser, who was previously the A-League’s head honcho, championed a bright future for the club at a press conference announcing his role at Campbelltown Catholic Club today.

“I want to make sure we are a club that people want to follow,” he said.

The 60 year old Scottish born former footballer spoke of building a legacy for Sydney’s third A-League club, describing success in Asia as his long-term benchmark.

“I think we have a great opportunity here. We have 10 NPL clubs here in the region and a growing population,” he said.

“I think we can get this right because there are no restrictions for us.”

Fraser said football’s potential in south west Sydney was limitless.

“We don’t have a lot of competition locally,” he said.

“We have Wests Tigers play, what, three games a year at the stadium. I think we can make football the number one game here, and our club the number one club.”

The CEO said the club would have to “absolutely” develop young local talent and spoke with excitement about the mouth-watering prospect of local derby matches with Western Sydney Wanderers.

“The more local derbies the better. The more rivalry the better,” he said.

Chairman Lang Walker said the next logical step for the club was to appoint a coach.

The club’s playing name, colours and logo are expected to be unveiled at a lunch function on May 15. The club will enter the A League in the 2020-21 season.
