EVER wondered How to Love the Sh*t Out of Life? Leumeah author Sally-Anne Hurley’s tips include to focus on the small things, like the joy of a warm and sunny day, the sound of a beer can cracking open or seeing your favourite pet.
“The big moments, your wedding, buying a house or having a baby are all great moments but the simple things are just as important,’’ Hurley said.
“Enjoy your day-to-day life and the simple things which are right in front of you.’’
Another tip is to be nice and kind to others and to yourself.
“Through doing that you are loving yourself and loving life more,’’ Hurley said.
“I recommend giving yourself compliments or if someone gives you a compliment, accept it.’’
Hurley, 29, a freelance journalist, started writing her self-help guide for young adults, How to Love the Sh*t Out of Life, four years ago.
It hits the bookshops next week.
Hurley said the cheeky and attention grabbing title was coined by a friend and it represented her absolute zest for life.
She said the book was about enjoying life, being positive and she took experiences from the people in her life and observations of those around her to showcase her positive strategies.
Hurley said she started writing the book when she was having an existential crisis, her friends were going through some tough times and there was a lot of negativity on the news and in the world.
“I started to question a lot of things but I realised through it all to keep a positive resolve and the writing started flowing from that,’’ she said.
“We need to keep sharing positive things and to help each other.’’
Hurley said if her book helped one or two people then her job was done.
She also has a How to Love the Sh*t Out of Life blog, Facebook page and website.
■ The book, How to Love the Sh*t Out of Life, is priced at $19.99 and will be available at all major bookshops and online from next week, through Brolga Publishing.
