The Macarthur region’s newest sports club is one step closer, with Moorebank Sports Club’s application for a club licence at Gregory Hills approved after a two and a half year wait.
The $12.6 million sports club, to be affectionately known as Sporties, will include a bistro, cafe, bar and lounge areas, children’s play area and bottle shop.
It will be located on a 14,000sq m site on the corner of Rodeo Rd and Gregory Hills Drive.
Sporties Group acting chief executive officer Jeff Gibbs said the approval of the club licence was very much welcomed.
“We are excited by the news and very excited about what we can do in Gregory Hills,” he said. “(The approval of the club licence) was a very important step in the process.”
“We look forward to bringing a community facility to Gregory Hills for families to go to and have a good time.”
The development of the site was approved by Camden Council in June 2017.
Mr Gibbs said he was unable to say when construction would begin.
“We will soon start the process but I can’t put a timeline on it as there is so much involved,” he said.
