A growing Sydney suburb will soon be home to a $22.3 watering hole that will join the long list of venues owned by billionaire pub mogul Arthur Laundy.

Laundy Hotels has been approved to build the Oxley Ridge Tavern on the corner of Northern Rd and Brunsdon Rd at Cobbitty after plans were submitted by construction company FDC, which have worked with Laundy Hotels on previous projects.

The three-level building will include a ground floor pub containing indoor and outdoor dining areas, sports lounge, gaming lounge, kids play area, kitchen, office, bar and amenities.

A mezzanine level bar and kitchen will also include indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a lower ground floor would be a back of house space for the pub, including undercroft carparking.

As part of the approval, the developers will have to improve the finish or include a mural for the northern facade of the hotel fronting Possum St to add visual interest and the maximum number of patrons allowed at once will be 750.

Once open for business, the pub will be able to trial operation hours of 7am to 2am from Monday to Saturday with a midnight lockout and 10am to midnight on Sunday.

After 12 months, Camden Council will consider whether the pub can continue to operate on the extended hours.

The pub will join Laundy Hotels’ long list of venues, including The Oaks Hotel as well as popular spots like Marsden Brewhouse in Marsden Park and The Locker Room at Sydney’s Olympic Park.

Earlier this year, multi-billionaire pub mogul Arthur Laundy negotiated the biggest single hotel deal in his 60-plus years in the industry buying out Fraser Short’s half share in five major hotels including Sydney’s Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel and Northies Hotel at Cronulla.

The veteran publican negotiated to pay up to $300m to acquire Fraser Short’s 50 per cent stake in five hotels as well as the trendy The Farm enterprise in Byron Bay giving the Laundy family full control of the assets.

Laundy Hotels have been shifting gears across the pub portfolio of hotels for several years concentrating more on food and beverage offerings and specialist restaurants such as the new Arturo’s fine dining offering at his Woolly Bay Hotel in inner Sydney as well as premium dining at his Log Cabin pub at Penrith in Sydney’s west.
