A 23-year-old man who violently raped a grandmother in a public reserve and callously congratulated her on a “good job” following the ordeal has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term in Campbelltown District Court today.
On November 12, 2017, Fijian-born Manasa Qoro followed the then 59-year-old woman to a ‘poorly-lit’ reserve near Moore St, Liverpool in Liverpool and struck her on the back of the head.
Forcing her to the ground and with her hand covering her mouth, Qoro said “I will f**king kill you” as she lay with her face in the grass.
He told her he was going to ‘blow’ in her mouth before he spat on her vagina and raped her.
When finished, Qoro wiped his penis on the victim’s jeans, told her “good job” and made a fist-pump gesture to her.
He had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault without consent and two counts of sexual intercourse without consent in Campbelltown Local Court.
Charges of indecent assault and a further count of sexual intercourse without consent were factored into Qoro’s sentence.

In a powerful victim impact statement, recited in full by Judge Chris O’Brien in his judgement, the unidentified victim revealed how she had become suicidal and lost all sense of self-worth following the traumatic incident.
“I don’t know who I am anymore,” the statement said. “What is left of me is an empty shell.”
The woman said she felt “dirty” and no longer worthy of her grandchildren’s love.
She spoke of reliving the traumatic incident in her dreams and being hospitalised in psychiatric wards on two occasions since the incident.
“It is like he (Qoro) has been imprinted on my space,” the statement said. “I can smell him.”
IN OTHER NEWS:
Judge O’Brien said the crime was unplanned and completely random.
“It is an extreme form of violence that the community rightly abhors,” he said.
“This must have been a terrifying experience for the victim.
“She had a right, as does any member of this community, to feel safe as she walked through the streets, no matter what time she walked through.”
Qoro, dressed in a dark, black suit, bowed his head during the entire judgement before violently striking the stairs twice as he was led away by Corrective Services.
He was sentenced to an aggregate sentence of 11 and a half years with seven and a half years non parole.
He will be eligible to apply for parole on May 14, 2025.
