MORE than 144 golfers, including boxing champion Daniel Geale and past and present Wests Tigers players, helped to raise more than $30,000 for the 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur at the Gabe O’Flaherty Golf Day at Camden Lakeside on Monday.
The 12th annual golf day was the first event for the 24 Hour Fight’s 2017 fundraising year.
24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur chairman and Campbelltown Councillor Warren Morrison said the golf day was a great success.
“I thank the sponsors and community that got behind the golf day and the committee that helped to organise it,’’ Cr Morrison said.
“The golf day has been supported largely by the same group of players and sponsors over the 12 years it has been running.
“I am very proud to say that collectively they have raised almost $370,000 for the 24 Hour Fight.’’
The 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur, which will this year be staged at Campbelltown Athletics Stadium, on the weekend of October 21-22, has raised $3.7 million in 13 years.
More than 1200 Macarthur area residents participate in the fundraiser each October.
All proceeds from the popular annual community event go to support the Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre, Campbeltown Hospital’s oncology ward and the paediatric cancer unit and Camden Hospital’s palliative care unit.
Cr Morrison said doctors and health professionals at these centres were currently in the process of developing their wish lists for this year.
Purchases include necessary medical equipment and support services that are not supplied from other resources.
