A business owner was caught hooning down a major road in Sydney in his Ferrari only for police to soon uncover he was a suspended driver.

Francesco Sette, 29, fronted Picton Local Court this week and pleaded guilty to driving more than 30km/h over the speed limit and driving while suspended.

Court documents state Sette was speeding down The Northern Road at Bringelly at 120km/h in his blue Ferrari, in a signposted 80km/h stretch, at 11.40pm on September 2.

Police pulled him over and soon discovered his licence was suspended as he had not completed the Driver Education Course.

At court on Wednesday, Sette’s lawyer acknowledged her client was driving at an excessive speed, but said it occurred on a “semirural” road, where there was not likely to be other motorists.

Francesco Sette was convicted at Picton Local Court.

She said Sette, a Bringelly resident, was a “busy businessman” and it slipped his mind to notify authorities he had recently moved house.

“He wasn’t aware that he was suspended,” the lawyer told the court.

“He runs a concrete business that was started by his father … he was coming home from his parents house … his mother had a heart attack back in August and he was going back and forth each night to check on her.

Magistrate David Degnan said Sette had also been caught using his phone five times while driving and said he should be using hands-free technology.

“He’s driving a Ferrari so I am pretty sure he’s got hands free,” he said.

Mr Degnan acknowledged Sette’s reason for suspension was less serious than others.

He convicted Sette, disqualified him for four months and fined him $1300.
