A former southwest Sydney primary school teacher has been jailed after his attempt to film up a student’s skirt led to police to discover a series of videos in which he did the same to other people, including a fellow teacher.

Former Spring Farm Public School teacher Guy James Meogrossi, 31, was sentenced on Monday to 18 months in jail, with a 12-month non-parole period.

He faced Campbelltown Local Court via video link from custody to learn his fate, having previously pleaded guilty to three counts of attempting to film a person’s private parts without consent and one charge of filming a person’s private parts without consent.

Agreed facts, tendered to the court, reveal police found 58 files on Meogrossi’s phone, depicting his attempts to film dozens of women’s crotches, following an incident in which he attempted to film up a student’s skirt at Spring Farm Public School.

The documents state the student saw Meogrossi filming with his phone camera pointed in her direction under the desk she was sitting at before he zoomed in on her legs and skirt.

The incident was reported to police that day, but Meogrossi initially denied intentionally recording anything inappropriate.

However, when police inspected his phone, they found a nearly eight-minute-long video of him trying to film up the student’s skirt.

There were also a further 57 video files involving similar conduct directed towards women, including a fellow teacher.

Court documents state none of the women were aware they were being filmed, and most have not been able to be identified.

While the court heard on Monday the clips were filmed over a six-month period, Meogrossi’s lawyer said no bare genitals were ever captured on video.

He said his client had shown remorse, having broken down in tears and expressed shame and embarrassment for his actions to his psychologist.

The lawyer added that Meogrossi had taken “full responsibility” for his actions, but he could not offer any explanation other than depression and other mental health conditions impacting his judgement.

The court also heard Meogrossi had been assaulted twice while in custody following his arrest in June 2024, since which time he had lost his job.

Magistrate Greg Elks said, in relation to the student victim, Meogrossi had been in a “position of trust” as a teacher.

“(There is) no question parents place their trust in teachers to protect them, if you like, as well as educate them,” he said.

Mr Elks said it was clear, after reading the student’s victim impact statement, Meogrossi’s actions had a “significant effect” on the girl, who was still affected by the incident.

The magistrate added that there were “a number of unidentified persons” affected by Meogrossi’s conduct, describing the number as “significant”.

With his sentence backdated to reflect time served on remand, Meogrossi will become eligible for parole on June 2, 2025.
