As the May 18 federal election draws closer, the Chronicle asked candidates standing in Hume for information about themselves. We publish responses in ballot paper order.

Aiofe Champion — Labor

A former national Irish dancing champion, Camden mum of three Aiofe Champion said she feels politics is her calling. The 38-year-old government lawyer, who once aspired to be a fiction writer, is passionate about human and environment rights and maintaining the current world for generations to come.

Lynda Abdo — United Australia Party

On social media, Ms Abdo says she is fed up with political infighting and wants to put Australia first.

Tanya Hargraves — Fraser Anning’s Conservative National Party

Angus Taylor — Liberal

The incumbent MP and current Minister for Energy, father of four Angus Taylor, 52, is an avid cyclist and runner, often taking on the Razorback challenge. Representing Hume for the past six years, Mr Taylor points to unprecedented infrastructure investment and employment growth and says there is more to be done.

David Powell — The Greens

Silverdale 58-year-old David Powell, a keen guitarist and music lover, has called May 18 the climate change election. A staunch supporter of TAFE and public education, Mr Powell is also committed to ensuring all companies pay their fair share of tax.

Huw Kingston — Independent

Honoured by Time magazine in 2009 for his efforts in getting a town to switch to refillable water bottles, environmentalist Huw Kingston, 55, is now vying to represent the Hume electorate. The Bundanoon resident and small business owner is a supporter of renewable energy.

Ian Nebauer — Christian Democratic Party
