The countdown to Saturday’s federal election is on and local candidates are making a final pitch to voters in the Macarthur electorate.

Dr Mike Freelander (Labor):

I originally stood for parliament, because I saw the issues that my patients and their families were facing, in terms of the rising cost of living, accessing supports in health, education, and housing, and their quality of life.

These things continue to drive me today, and I am determined to try and make life better for the people I am honoured to represent.

I am standing to provide fairer tax cuts for working and middle-class Australians, two years of early childhood education for every child, end the Medicare freeze and take steps to address out-of-pocket health costs, and deliver real action to ease the cost of living by regulating power prices. I am determined to take the pressure off Macarthur residents.

A Labor Government will invest heavily in local infrastructure through commuter carparks at Leppington, Campbelltown and Macarthur stations, $3 billion for a rail link to the new airport, $55 million in upgrades for Appin Rd, and the creation of a $10 million Paediatric Intensive Care Unit for Campbelltown Hospital. I also look forward to delivering over $23 million in additional funding for our local public schools, so that every school can be a great school.

I am determined to deliver a fair go for Macarthur residents.

Riley Munro (Liberal):

Voters in Macarthur should be very concerned about becoming a safe seat for the Labor Party.

The last time this happened, it took decades to address the neglect we suffered, and we haven’t truly recovered from it. Some of our infrastructure is still inadequate to cope with current demand, and isn’t equipped for the growth we are forecast to experience.

To make things worse, a Labor victory will see us all paying new additional taxes, for nothing remarkable in return. Tax is something all Australians pay, with the understanding that we will get services and infrastructure as a result.

But these new taxes that Labor want to impose on us, will see us all paying more. Which isn’t fair on the hard working people of Macarthur.

The Coalition has invested in upgrading our roads, transport and in the health and education of our community. This election is a clear choice between higher taxes and a weaker economy, or lower taxes and a stronger economy to take the pressure off our fellow Australians.

Nathan Murphy (United Australia Party):

I grew up in Ingleburn, I currently Live in Leppington. I am a Bricklayer and served nearly 20 years in the Army.

We need to treat everyone as equals in Australia. We have a policy that is humane and will see refugees get their visa approved on shore within 24 hours if eligible. This will eradicate the people smuggling industry and protect Australia’s borders.

I want reduced energy prices by replacing old coalfired power stations with new efficient coal fired power stations and finding a more efficient way to generate energy like nuclear energy.

Our farmers are the heartbeat of Australia and we need to treat them with respect and we will remove the Murray Darling Basin Plan.

Pensioners will gain from an increase of $150 per week on their pension.

We will protect negative gearing for the people and extend the tax benefits not only for investment properties but also for prime place of residence.

I have served the nation for most of my life, I serve to be the strength people struggling against brutal acts, injustice and oppression anywhere need.

I believe the biggest problem facing us, the people of Macarthur this election are the results of the two main parties, you have seen the advertisements by both parties outlining how bad both are.

We need change. Now thanks to Clive Palmer love or hate him, he has assembled an amazing team of Australians ready and able to serve you at your United Australia Party.

We in Macarthur and the entire nation now have a legitimate party of real Australians prepared to serve the nation not ourselves. Vote for change. Vote 1 United Australia Party.

Australians have a choice this election, look at the parties policies, you either vote for change or vote for a nice guy who’s party will introduce more taxes.

Jayden Rivera (Greens):

I believe our biggest issues in our local area are housing affordability, raising Newstart and Youth Allowance by $75 a week to support those in need. Funding Dental Care into Medicare, fully funded NDIS services, and providing a safe Nurse to Patient Ratio, decrease hospital wait lists, Free TAFE and Undergraduate Uni degrees, protecting our environment and wildlife, and action on climate change.

I would like to accomplish more affordable public transport access and services to cater for our new development and reduce pollution and traffic. a commuter car park for those travelling out of Macarthur to reduce traffic and pollution, upgrades to roads, in particular Appin Rd to prevent accidents and wildlife corridor protection and tackling homelessness by funding crisis services and community housing projects to allow affordable housing for everyone, especially those in need. And also introducing solar energy into public buildings and create initiatives for local businesses to get involved.
