A couple charged with committing a sex act with a dog named Nala has retained the services of a criminal lawyer to represent them against the shocking allegations.
Murat Ibrahim, 44, and Lynee Esme Maud Albright, 54, did not appear in Picton Local Court on Tuesday when the charges of bestiality was mentioned before Magistrate Ian Cheetham.
Campbelltown lawyer John Stonham represented the Elderslie couple and successfully called on Mr Cheetham to excuse the duo from attending court in future, if legally represented.
Police allege the man and woman committed a sex act with a female dog in the early hours of a winter morning last year.
The duo, who reside in the same Elderslie address, were arrested and charged on December 30 last year.
The incident, which police allege was captured on video, is alleged to have taken place in Elderslie between 2.50am and 3.30am on July 9 last year. No plea has yet been entered.
When the couple first appeared before Picton Local Court in January, Magistrate Ian Cheetham encouraged the pair to get legal representation.
If found guilty, Ibrahim and Albright face a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail.
As part of their bail conditions, they cannot have custody of, care for or control of any animal.
The matter will return to Picton Local Court on May 12 for charge certification.
