Development application proposes retail centre at Pembroke Rd in Wilton’s Bingara Gorge

A plan to construct a new retail centre with a supermarket, indoor and outdoor dining options, has been proposed for one of the region’s fast-growing suburbs.

A growing community could soon benefit from having its very own shopping centre, which if approved could be completed by late 2024.

Metro Property Development has lodged a development application with Wollondilly Shire Council to build a retail neighbourhood centre, centrally located in Wilton’s Bingara Gorge community.

The proposed retail centre, located at 30 Pembroke Parade and designed by architectural practice BN Group, comprises a 3000 sqm supermarket, 13 specialty tenancies, a climate-controlled plaza along ground level, outdoor and indoor dining, public amenities and 200 parking spaces.

Jeff Atkinson, the project director for Bingara Gorge at Metro Property Development, said the retail neighbourhood centre will create a vibrant social gathering place for the community where residents and visitors undertake shopping activities or meet friends.

“It is centrally positioned with interconnected walking and cycle paths to first-class facilities in the area,” he said.

“Bingara Gorge is now home to over 2000 residents. When the new centre is completed, more than 4500 people will make use of the amenity.

“The estate successfully incorporates a wide range of bespoke homes and world-class amenities, complemented by 200 hectares of open spaces featuring a Graham Marsh 18-hole golf course.”

Car parking and a click-and-collect service are located on the upper level for customer convenience and solar panels are situated above parking areas to provide shading for cars and offset energy savings in the centre.

The new precinct will be a short walk from Wilton Public School, the golf course, bus stops, playgrounds and medical centre.

More than 100 jobs will be created during construction and over 100 permanent positions. Subject to development approval, the project is anticipated to be completed in late 2024.

Stephen Blaxland, the managing director at BN Group, said the key objective in designing the new neighbourhood centre was to enhance the convenience retail offering of Wilton, carefully integrating with nearby facilities and homes.

The proposed retail centre would be located at 30 Pembroke Parade, Wilton.

The design allows for activation of the street edge and the creation of an important socialising place at the corner of Pembroke Parade and Greenbridge Drive,” he said.

“The layered and textured external facade will sit neatly within the landscape and built environment.

“A visually pleasing collection of natural tones, colours and surfaces will be used to create a harmonious and comfortable place for visitors. All design elements soften the built form to meld with adjacent homes and streetscapes.”

Bingara Gorge is a 450-hectare site that will comprise 1800 homes when completed in 2024. Over 200 hectares of open spaces, a golf course, playgrounds, walk and cycle paths, leisure centre, retail shops, childcare and primary school will feature in the development.

As part of Wilton’s 2040 vision according to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, A Plan for the Wilton Growth Area, state and federal governments are planning to invest billions of dollars into the region.

Bingara Gorge’s position would benefit from this massive funding injection with residents expected to embrace the development’s proximity to the new retail, commercial and entertainment facilities in Wilton Town Centre’s precinct.
