Wilton New Town’s developers have responded to Wollondilly Council‘s concerns about inadequate infrastructure and employment for the new city.
The three proponents for the project, Bradcorp, Walker Corporation and Governor’s Hill, say they want to reassure both councillors and residents about the degree of planning going into the development.
“Wilton New Town has been proposed as a private sector growth centre with infrastructure funded by the proponents,” Bradcorp chief executive Peter Brennan said.
“It is envisaged as a self-supporting garden city providing homes, employment and facilities that represent the very best town planning and place-making principles.”
Bradcorp will be responsible for the largest section of the development, known as Wilton North West, which has a construction timeline of 10-15 years starting from 2018. The developer’s commitment to the project includes a $178 million contribution to infrastructure, including off and on ramps for the Hume Highway and Bingara Gorge, regular bus services, 22km of cycle and walkways, lakeside activity hub, sports fields and a private K-12 school. There are also plans for a public K-12 school. The masterplan includes a rail corridor, although any decision on rail would be up to the state government.
“A large development project such as Wilton North West not only generates jobs directly but has a multiplier effect that will see allied industries and small businesses benefit,” Mr Brennan said.
Governors Hill and Walker Corporation are working on a combined outline of infrastructure that will be provided as part of the development.
