Darlinghurst assault: Shaun Barr denies allegations of violence
A man accused of a frightening shirtless assault on a female at Darlinghurst - 450km from his home - has denied any violence, despite admitting that he drove two stolen cars and was involved in a police pursuit days later.

The man at the centre of a dramatic arrest in southwest Sydney, who avoided arrest for three days after allegedly unleashing a frightening assault on a female in Darlinghurst, has pleaded not guilty to the violence.
A court heard Ashmont’s Shaun Barr evaded police for close to 72 hours after the alleged assault on July 12, where police allege he punched a female passenger of a stolen Volkswagen Passat before tackling a male bystander into a fence when they tried to intervene.
The alleged violence triggered a wild getaway through Sydney which ended in dramatic fashion in Narellan on July 15, following a police pursuit through the Campbelltown area.
On Tuesday the 33-year-old pleaded guilty to seven offences including two counts of driving stolen vehicles, two counts of furious and reckless driving and a police pursuit. All the offences took place following the alleged violence at Darlinghurst..
Pleas of not guilty were entered to the two charges of assault in Darlinghurst and being in possession of 6.5g of ice on his arrest.
A 14-year-old girl, understood to have been a passenger during the police chase and arrested alongside Barr, asked the court to loosen conditions of an apprehended violence order between the pair but it was dismissed because of her age.
The matter will return to Downing Centre Local Court on September 8.
