A man once trusted to guide the next generation of ten pin bowling has confessed to preying on a young teenage boy, offering booze and cash for oral sex.

The criminal behaviour of Daniel Richard Webb, a former national junior ten bowling coach, has been aired in Downing Centre District Court after he pleaded guilty to three child sex offences including indecent assault on a person under 16.

The court heard Webb, 28, from Rosemeadow near Campbelltown, propositioned a young boy for ‘fun’ one night over Facebook Messenger.

When asked what he meant by fun, the junior sports coach later told the victim he would provide alcohol in exchange for sexual favours.

“Come on, let’s give me an b*** j**”, the court heard the message said.

The victim said no as he was tired and going to sleep, leading Webb to offer $400 for oral sex. An image of Webb, laying on his bed holding his penis in one hand, was also sent to the boy.

When the boy asked why Webb desired him, the coach said it was “because (the boy) was so stubborn”.

The court also heard the next day, the same victim asked Webb for a massage as he had knots in his shoulder. The coach then sexualised the incident by asking the victim to lay on his front and take off his shirt so he can spread the massage oil better leading to an indecent assault.

A forensic psychologist who compiled a report on Webb’s offending provisionally diagnosed the young man with autism, with his lawyer telling the court the disorder was linked in the predator behaviour.

Webb, a former student of St Gregory’s College and former national ten pin bowling champion, confessed to the psychologist he had sexualised thoughts of the victim. However, the psychologist told the court Webb was attracted to men his own age.

In a victim impact statement, delivered to the court by the victim’s father, the teenage boy revealed how he had stopped going to school following the incident and had given up the sport of ten pin bowling completely.

“I have lost the motivation for the sport”, he said.

The sentence hearing will continue later this month.
