It’s a highly anticipated project for southwest Sydney that has been in the works for more than five years, but it will finally start to take shape.
Construction for the United Cinemas at Gregory Hills will begin in early 2023 and is expected to take 18 months, meaning the complex could open by the end of 2024.
In 2019, the Department of Planning approved the application for a construction of the entertainment facility with nine screens.
United Cinemas chairman Roy Mustaca said it would be an entertainment landmark for the region.
Mr Mustaca said the pandemic had been a trying time for businesses and families alike, but the community was starting to embrace getting out again.
“We feel that a lot of families are in need of something beautiful,” he said.
“I think that families are eager to try and get out and forget Covid, we hope to give them something amazing to go to.”
Mr Mustaca said Gregory Hills was a rapidly growing location, and was the obvious location for the cinema complex.
The entertainment precinct, to be located at 2-64 Steer Rd, Gregory Hills, promises to be home to the largest cinema screen in the region.
The four-storey, $22 million entertainment complex will feature nine cinema screens, three indoor recreation areas and a food court.
The complex would showcase United Cinema’s signature two tier seating design, as well as housing the latest digital screen and sound technology.
Mr Mustaca said the build would start early next year and take about 18 months to complete.
“It will be outstanding,” he said.
“We are excited to bring this to the region.
“We love to serve the communities we are in with the finest cinema experience, and we look forward to rolling out the red carpet.”
