Police have revealed the victim of a tragic two-car crash was a Catherine Field local, as investigators work to piece together the final moments before the fatality.
About 8pm Sunday, emergency services were called to Springfield Rd, Catherine Field following reports of a head-on crash between two vehicles.
Acting inspector Jason Hogan, manager of NSW Police’s Crash Investigation Unit, said a 37-year-old man was driving south along the road when he allegedly “lost control of his vehicle” and travelled to the incorrect side of the roadway.
“The Mercedes AMG that he was driving has collided with a Toyota Cressida,” he said.
“That was being driven by a 55-year-old male who was trapped as a part of the collision and unfortunately died at the scene.
“The 37-year-old male was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and underwent mandatory blood and alcohol testing.”
Inspector Hogan confirmed the man was arrested as part of the mandatory drug and alcohol testing protocol, but no charges have been laid in the incident.
He said it was a “tragic incident” which had claimed the life of a Catherine Field local.
Camden Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic police.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
“Anyone with information about what happened should come forward to police,” Inspector Hogan said.
