When you visit the Campbelltown Catholic Club precinct, you can’t help but think of the iconic Paul Kelly song From Little Things Big Things Grow.
The club started its life as just a germ of an idea in 1964 — a group of parents from St John’s Catholic Primary School looking for a way to fundraise to assist the school and ensure their children got the best education available.
It took them five years — and a battle against local pubs — to get their clubhouse built.
Fast forward 50 years and the humble clubhouse has evolved into an international quality facility of which the entire community can be proud.
There’s now the club which boasts nine eateries, its signature restaurant the modern Asian-inspired Kyubi, The Cube Convention and Entertainment Centre, an adjoining Rydges hotel featuring a mini brewery, the Aquafit health and wellness centre on the same site and Campbelltown Golf Club in nearby Glen Alpine.
While staff is proud of the building program, they are equally as proud of the club’s White Ribbon accreditation gained earlier this year.
Club CEO Michael Lavorato says his wish is simply that people come to Campbelltown Catholic Club and enjoy themselves.
The club recently invited media and influencers to enjoy all Campbelltown Catholic Club had to offer. Enjoy was an understatement. Wow!
Simon, an enthusiastic inner city food blogger, captured in a nutshell the Macarthur region’s often self-deprecating perspective of itself.
Campbelltown Catholic Club had invited a group of journalists — ranging from newspapers to
bloggers to Instagram influencers — to experience the club’s facilities.
On the back of its 50th anniversary celebrations and a rebranding to better showcase its vision the club was keen to celebrate the milestone, but also share the excitement of what it has to offer not just the local community but the broader metropolitan area.
After a finishing a wow-factor appetiser plate at the Kyubi Modern Asian Dining restaurant, Simon offered this compliment: “If I blindfolded my family and took them to Kyubi to eat, they would think they were in Pyrmont, even the city.”
Campbelltown Catholic Club chief executive officer Michael Lavorato’s challenge has been “why not Campbelltown?”.
He emphasises he simply wants to provide a facility that people can enjoy and be proud of.
The region has long moved beyond its lower socio-economic heritage to become a vibrant hub for its booming population. Visitors are pleasantly surprised with the range of retail outlets that rival anywhere in Sydney.
And while locals are aware of the variety and quality of dining options in the Macarthur region, outsiders are generally ignorant. It’s one of our best-kept secrets.
But Mr Lavorato and his dedicated team are keen to break the embargo and let the rest of Sydney know what they are missing out on.
The invitation to journalists was a package to showcase Campbelltown Catholic Club as an all-inclusive destination: kick off the night with a drink at Otis Bar and Grill, savour a world-class meal at Kyubi, hit the adjoining The Cube entertainment centre for a night of laughs with comedian Arj Barker, enjoy another drink as you have a flutter on the pokies then press the lift button and head upstairs to a well-appointed room at Rydges.
No fuss and an amazing night out — ticking every box — at one location.
