The much-loved Menangle Weir could be reinvigorated with early stages of planning for a marina in its proximity.
Mirvac development director Nino Babani told the Chronicle he believed activating the river foreshore was “appropriate”.
“We have an appetite to something (on the river foreshore),” he said.
“We also have to consider the environmental elements of the foreshore as well, but we are hoping to talk to council and other authorities to try and get something activated in that area.
“We have talked about a marina — that is in the very early stages of conception.”
Mr Babani said the heritage aspects of the Menangle site was a crucial lure in choosing to develop the site.
“For us, we always consider with any heritage element we first want to protect, enhance then celebrate those elements then work them into our overall masterplan,” he said.
Mr Babani said an emphasis had been placed on linking the existing Menangle township with the future houses, by delivering key community infrastructure and appropriate lot sizes.
“We are looking at creating open spaces as early as possible,” he said.
“It should accommodate all the social interaction we need to integrate communities, both current residents and future residents, so they have elements such as playgrounds, barbecues, outdoor fitness, walkways and cycleways.
“We are trying to get to a position to have multi-age, multi-ability equipment in there as well, so there is no segregation of any element of society.”
