Harrington Park resident Peter Sidgreaves, 43, has been announced as the state Liberal candidate for Camden, only 66 days after being anointed as Mayor of Camden.
Harrington Park resident Peter Sidgreaves, 43, has been announced as the state Liberal candidate for Camden, only 66 days after becoming Mayor of Camden.
Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson, who announced in September he wouldn’t be contesting the 2018 state election, announced in his valedictory speech that Mr Sidgreaves was the Liberal candidate.
“Finally, Camden Mayor Peter Sidgreaves, the Liberal candidate for Camden, who is here today,” Mr Patterson said.
“If given the opportunity, mate, you will do a fantastic job. You have my full support. Good luck and we wish you all the best.”
Mr Sidgreaves, a father-of-four, was previously an IT manager for the Catholic Education Office before stepping away to concentrate on his mayoral duties in recent months.
“I love this region and its community, and I’ve put my hand up as the Liberal Party candidate because this place is great and I think we can make it even better — with more sporting and recreation facilities for local families, creating more local jobs and helping to diversify our economy,” Cr Sidgreaves said in a statement.
“I have a clear vision for the Camden community, and thanks to the Berejiklian Government’s strong economic management we are now free of Labor’s debt and can invest in the future.
“I want to see even more funding for local services and infrastructure, and protection of this area’s local character.
“I will also fight for improvements to aged care, education, health and transport services that our community needs.
Mr Sidgreaves paid credit to Mr Patterson for his work since 2011.
“His hard work has paid off with upgrades to major road and rail infrastructure, Campbelltown hospital, the building of new schools and his work on delivering a new Cricket Centre of Excellence,” he said.
“I look forward to working with him over the coming months.”
