Brookfield man Jordan Morgan pleads guilty to reckless wounding

An ex-partner was stabbed by a woman’s new boyfriend in a crazed scene outside a southwestern Sydney hotel, a court has heard.

Jordan Morgan, 21, left Matthew Flaherty with multiple injuries including a 10cm stab wound to his right thigh after a skirmish in September last year.

The offending can be revealed after Morgan, of Brookfield, faced Campbelltown Local Court via videolink from jail earlier this month and pleaded guilty to reckless wounding and damaging property in company.

Court documents state Mr Flaherty was parked in an Avis rental car at the Green Valley Hotel late in the evening on September 5, 2023, when the offender pulled up in the black SUV.

Morgan jumped out and a male co-accused jumped out of the car with the former approaching the driver side door and stabbing the victim’s leg through the open window.

Documents state the co-accused – who was armed with a police baton – helped Morgan pry open the driver side door before he lunged and stabbed the victim in the sternum.

The victim managed to kick free from Morgan before confronting the pair with a tyre iron. Documents state Morgan threw the blade towards the victim who retaliated by striking the SUV with the makeshift weapon.

The documents state the offender’s girlfriend ran out of the hotel and yelled “police are on their way” before Morgan and the other man fled the scene.

The woman is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Police were able to track down Morgan and arrest him five days after the incident.

Morgan will face Campbelltown District Court next month before being sentenced later this year.
