A 26-year-old woman accused of organising a $44,000 cattle fraud in Sydney’s south west will fight the charges in a hearing.

Brittany Louise Roberts has been charged with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception after police allege she scammed a farming family out of tens of thousands of dollars.

In May and June last year, police allege the Marulan resident pretended to sell 32 cattle to the family in five separate transactions. According to police, Ms Roberts netted tens of thousands of dollars by pretending to sell a small number of cattle every week for five consecutive weeks.

Despite never handing over the cattle, Ms Roberts was paid $44,000 by the victims for the cattle.

According to police allegations, the largest single transaction occurred on May 17, when the family partnership paid $12,600 for eight cattle.

All of the offences allegedly took place in the rural Camden area of Greendale during the afternoon, between 12pm and 9pm.

On Wednesday, five charges of dishonestly obtaining property by deception against Ms Roberts were withdrawn in Picton Court. The court heard Ms Roberts will proceed to a hearing to fight the remaining five charges of dishonestly gaining financial advantage by deception.

The court heard a man has been charged with similar offences after allegedly being an accomplice to the fraud. His case will be heard concurrently.

The matter will return to Picton court on October 6 for hearing.
