A WOLLONDILLY Councillor wants to stop the shire becoming a “cholesterol city’ by banning large signs promoting fast food chains from springing up on the rural and heritage landscape.

Cr Michael Banasik said he was not against fast food outlets like McDonald’s or KFC, but he wanted to ban big signs like Wollongong and Campbelltown have as you enter those cities.

“The signs should be small because I don’t want Wollondilly becoming a cholesterol city with these big signs appearing on the hills over Razorback for example, or in our heritage villages,’’ he said.

He wants to ensure the council’s development control plan prohibited big signs because from March next year, council staff will approve DAs and DAs over $5 million will go to an independent planning panel.

Cr Banasik’s idea is expected to be discussed at the next Wollondilly Council meeting on Monday, November 20.
