LARGE sections of asphalt will be replaced and line markings repainted as part of essential road works on the Hume Highway at St Andrews from next Wednesday.

The work will be carried out north of Raby Rd in three shifts between Wednesday, November 15 and Friday, December 22, at night from 10pm to 7am, excluding Saturdays and weather permitting.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said noisier tasks would be completed by 11pm at night to minimise the impact of noise.

“This work aims to improve the road surface and reduce long term maintenance costs,’’ he said.

The project is being carried out at night to minimise delays for motorists and is part of the NSW Government’s $1.5 million program to maintain and improve the 18,028 kilometre state road and bridge network.

Up to date information will be displayed on electronic message boards along the road.

There will be temporary traffic changes during work hours to ensure the work zone is safe.

Traffic controllers will be on site for the safety of drivers and workers.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys, drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

RMS has thanked the community for its patience while the work is carried out.
